Course Overview
The CPCS A62 Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor Course is an intensive 3-day training programme designed to develop competent Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisors (Lift Supervisors) responsible for the safe supervision and coordination of lifting operations. Recognised throughout the construction, infrastructure, industrial, manufacturing and renewable energy sectors, the qualification develops the knowledge, practical understanding and leadership skills required to undertake one of the most important supervisory roles within a lifting operation.
The course provides candidates with the knowledge required to supervise lifting activities, coordinate lifting teams, monitor lifting operations and ensure work is carried out safely in accordance with current legislation, industry standards and recognised best practice.
All training is delivered by experienced industry professionals with extensive supervisory and operational lifting experience together with current industry knowledge.
The CPCS A62 Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor Course is aimed at individuals looking to progress into supervisory roles within lifting operations. The course is particularly suitable for experienced Slinger Signallers, Crane Operators, Plant Operators, Team Leaders, Site Operatives and personnel who are required to supervise lifting activities on site.
It is also suitable for personnel involved in contract lifting, heavy lifting operations, infrastructure projects, offshore and onshore renewable energy projects, industrial installations and complex lifting operations who require a recognised qualification and a greater understanding of their legal responsibilities under LOLER and BS7121.
Candidates should have previous experience of lifting operations and be able to demonstrate a good understanding of crane operations, lifting equipment and safe systems of work.
The CPCS A62 Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor qualification is designed to develop the knowledge and practical understanding required to safely supervise lifting operations in accordance with current legislation, industry standards and recognised best practice.
Throughout the course, candidates will develop an understanding of the legal duties and responsibilities of the Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor, including compliance with LOLER, BS7121 and safe systems of work. The course covers the principles of lifting operation supervision, risk assessment, method statements, lifting equipment selection, exclusion zones, communication systems, team coordination and the management of lifting activities.
Candidates will also gain knowledge of lifting accessories, lifting plans, personnel responsibilities, crane operations, hazard identification, site constraints, temporary works interfaces and the factors that influence the safe execution of lifting operations. Practical exercises and realistic scenarios are used throughout the programme to develop the decision-making and leadership skills required when supervising routine, complex, heavy lift and contract lifting operations.
Successful completion of the two-day training programme prepares candidates for the CPCS A62 Technical Test on day three.
Upon successful completion of the CPCS A62 Technical Test, candidates will achieve the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card for Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor. This demonstrates that the holder has successfully completed recognised training and testing and possesses the knowledge required to supervise lifting operations and coordinate lifting teams safely and effectively.
The CPCS Red Trained Operator Card is valid for two years and provides a recognised route towards achieving the CPCS Blue Competent Operator Card. To progress to the Blue Card, candidates must complete the relevant NVQ Level 4 in Controlling Lifting Operations – Supervising Lifts and meet the CPCS card scheme requirements applicable at the time of application.
The Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor qualification is recognised throughout the construction, infrastructure, industrial, manufacturing, ports and renewable energy sectors and supports progression into senior supervisory, management and specialist lifting roles.
