A60 Mobile Crane (Experienced)
Course Overview
The CPCS A60 Mobile Crane Course is an intensive 2-day training programme designed for experienced mobile crane operators who require familiarisation, theory revision and CPCS Technical Test preparation. Recognised throughout the construction, infrastructure, industrial, manufacturing, rail, ports and renewable energy sectors, the qualification provides experienced operators with the opportunity to formalise their skills and achieve a recognised CPCS qualification.
This course is intended for candidates who already possess practical mobile crane operating experience and require structured preparation prior to undertaking the CPCS A60 Technical Test. The programme focuses on reinforcing existing knowledge, updating candidates on current legislation and industry standards, and ensuring operators are fully prepared for both the theory and practical elements of the CPCS assessment process.
All training is delivered by experienced industry professionals with extensive mobile crane operating experience and current operational knowledge.
The CPCS A60 Mobile Crane (Experienced) Course is aimed at experienced mobile crane operators who already possess practical operating skills but require CPCS certification, familiarisation training or preparation for the CPCS Technical Test.
The course is particularly suitable for experienced crane operators working within construction, infrastructure, industrial, manufacturing, ports, rail, offshore and onshore renewable energy sectors who wish to gain a recognised CPCS qualification.
It is also suitable for operators involved in contract lifting, heavy lifting operations, specialist lifting projects and complex lifting activities who require formal recognition of their existing skills and experience.
Candidates should have previous mobile crane operating experience and be capable of safely operating a mobile crane with minimal supervision.
The CPCS A60 Mobile Crane qualification is designed to confirm and enhance the knowledge and practical understanding required to safely operate a mobile crane in accordance with current legislation, industry standards and recognised best practice.
Throughout the course, candidates will revisit the legal duties and responsibilities of the Mobile Crane Operator, including compliance with LOLER, BS7121 and safe systems of work. The programme covers crane terminology, crane components, pre-use inspections, crane setup procedures, duty charts, operator responsibilities, lifting operations and emergency procedures.
Candidates will also refresh their understanding of crane stability, outrigger deployment, ground conditions, crane configuration, environmental influences, communication systems, hazard identification and the factors that influence safe crane operation. Practical familiarisation exercises and realistic lifting scenarios are used throughout the programme to prepare candidates for both the theory and practical elements of the CPCS Technical Test.
Successful completion of the one-day training programme prepares candidates for the CPCS A60 Technical Test on day two.
Upon successful completion of the CPCS A60 Technical Test, candidates will achieve the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card for Mobile Crane. This demonstrates that the holder has successfully completed recognised training and testing and possesses the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a mobile crane within lifting operations.
The CPCS Red Trained Operator Card is valid for two years and provides a recognised route towards achieving the CPCS Blue Competent Operator Card. To progress to the Blue Card, candidates must complete the relevant NVQ Level 2 in Plant Operations – Mobile Crane and meet the CPCS card scheme requirements applicable at the time of application.
The Mobile Crane qualification is recognised throughout the construction, infrastructure, industrial, manufacturing, ports, rail and renewable energy sectors and supports progression into advanced crane categories, supervisory positions and specialist lifting roles.
CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test for Operatives (HS&E Operatives) – Candidates must hold a valid test pass completed within the previous two years. You can book the required test here. For further information see our Training Resources page.
